Popular Yoruba Nollywood actor and producer, Temitope Omosowon, has opened up about the emotional trauma he experienced during his wedding. In a candid interview, he revealed that he had to hire a man to pose as his father, along with other family members, just to meet societal expectations.
Despite going to great lengths to present a respectable image on his big day, Omosowon shared that he was still humiliated by his in-laws—a painful experience that left him with lasting regrets about the marriage. Speaking on Biola Adebayo’s YouTube channel, he disclosed that the woman he eventually married legally was Okiki, the mother of his child.
However, Omosowon described the marriage as a deeply regrettable decision, expressing disappointment that neither his wife nor her family met his expectations. He revealed that he often wished he could take back the foodstuffs and yams he presented during the traditional wedding rites, feeling they didn’t deserve them.
The actor recounted a painful experience marked by hostility and rejection from his in-laws, describing them as unwelcoming and disrespectful. He said they mocked his background, calling him an orphan and even spreading false claims that he was raised in an orphanage.
Omosowon described these remarks as deeply hurtful, revealing the contempt his in-laws had for him despite his genuine efforts to organize a proper wedding. Determined to uphold societal expectations, he said he went to the extent of renting a father figure and other relatives to portray the image of a complete family on his special day.
Yet, despite all his efforts, his in-laws allegedly remained disrespectful—going so far as to instigate a confrontation during the ceremony. To make matters worse, they falsely claimed credit for providing the attire worn by the rented father figure, not knowing he wasn’t actually related to Omosowon.
He said: “It was the woman who gave birth to Okiki (my child) that I married legally. I even had a wedding for her. However, I regret marrying my wife and wish I could collect back the yam and foodstuffs I gave her parents. She and her parents are not worthy of eating those foodstuffs. She is not wife material. Even her parents are not welcoming. They called me an orphan and even lied that I was from an orphanage. They thought I wouldn’t be able to afford the wedding, but I did. On that day, I even had to rent a father for my wedding, including some other family members. Even on my wedding day, they tried to fight my family and lied that they bought clothes for my father, not knowing that I had rented the man.”
