Famous9ja recall that Veteran actress Peju Ogunmola has identified poor parenting as a major cause of immorality in the entertainment industry, particularly Nollywood. She made this known while speaking at an event organized by Ile-Agbasaga (Cultural Hub) in Osogbo, Osun State.
Ogunmola criticized the government for neglecting the entertainment sector, stressing that it holds immense potential for youth empowerment through job creation. She argued that the rising moral decay in the industry is largely due to inadequate parental guidance.
Reflecting on her over 43 years in the film industry, Ogunmola noted that her conduct has always been shaped by the desire to uphold the integrity of her family especially her husband and parents, both of whom were respected figures in the acting world.
“Three important values shape one’s morals in life: parenting, integrity, and a conscious effort to uphold family values,” she stated. “Throughout my career, I have diligently protected my family’s name, my husband’s name, and my personal integrity. That is why I have chosen not to live a wayward life.”
She went on to advise young people, especially women entering the industry, to remain focused and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of their families.
Ogunmola also called on the Osun State Government to invest in the arts and culture sector to revive the rich cultural heritage Osogbo is known for, while also boosting youth employment.
Recalling the glory days of Nigerian theatre, she said, “In the era of legends like Oyin Adejobi, Duro Ladipo, and others, there was strong collaboration with the government. We received substantial support, including sponsorship for both local and international events.”
