Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode, popularly known as Toyo Baby from the hit television series Jenifa’s Diary, has opened up about the challenges of maintaining celibacy before marriage.
In an exclusive interview with Oyinmomo TV, Olayode spoke candidly about the difficulties of preserving sexual purity in a society where physical attraction plays a significant role in relationships.
Having been vocal about her commitment to abstinence, she acknowledged that the presence of many attractive and desirable men makes the journey even more challenging. She noted that as one grows older, the temptation intensifies, demanding continuous effort and self-discipline.
Olayode also admitted that external influences, such as social interactions and media exposure, further complicate the decision to remain celibate, making it a constant struggle.
The actress highlighted how modern society promotes a culture that celebrates physical attraction, often making sexual compatibility a focal point in relationships. She explained that resisting these societal pressures requires strong personal values and a clear commitment to purity.
Olayode noted that many people struggle with celibacy due to the overwhelming presence of potential partners who fit conventional beauty standards. She also pointed out that the accessibility of social media and digital content adds to the challenge.
According to her, constant exposure to images and videos portraying idealized romantic relationships can create unrealistic expectations, making it even harder to stay true to one’s convictions. She emphasized the importance of filtering content and surrounding oneself with individuals who respect and support such decisions.
Despite the challenges, the actress remains steadfast in her commitment, stressing that maintaining self-control demands intentionality and faith.
She said; “It is not easy to abstain from sex before marriage these days because there are lots of attractive men out there. But my relationship with God is the most important aspect of my life. So it’s not always easy. But what has been helping me is that I restrict the type of movies I watch and always control the type of content that appears on my social media. For example, when I come across a post that makes me uncomfortable, I block people and select an option not to show me or recommend that type of post again.”
“There have been men who came into my inbox after they heard that I am a virgin. Some of them were just curious, while others had ulterior motives. But my faith in God has kept me focused. If not for my relationship with God, I might have given in by now,” she disclosed.
