Sergio Busquets set to announce his departure from professional football – Report

Sergio Busquets, a defensive midfielder for Football Club Barcelona, has declared his retirement from international football after Spain’s elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He’ll give up playing professional football.

“It has been an honor, a draw, and a source of pride to have been able to wear this badge but everything must come to an end,” Sergio Busquets said in a social media video announcing his decision. Prior to thanking “all those people who have been with me on this journey, as well as the members and fans,” the midfielder also acknowledges that “It hasn’t been an easy decision but the time has come.”

For Barcelona, Sergio Busquets has made 719 appearances. He scored 19 goals and provided 40 assists during the course of his time with Barcelona.

The enduring defensive midfielder has a long list of championships with Barcelona.

He has also won three UEFA Champions Leagues, seven Copa del Reys, three Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, and seven Spanish Super Cups. He has also won nine La Liga championships.

Sergio Busquets has accomplished a tremendous feat for Spain. He and Spain won the famous World Cup in 2010.

He won both the European Championship and the Spain in 2012.

Sergio Busquets, a Sabadell native, transferred from Jabac to the Barca youth system in the summer of 2005. He won three significant awards while representing the U19A team during that season. According to Barcelona’s official Website, Busquets went up to Barca B under coach Pep Guardiola, making 23 games, scoring twice, and significantly contributing to the promotion to Division 2B.

He passed Andres Iniesta to become the third player in Barca history with the most appearances during the 2021–2022 season.

After Barcelona won the La Liga championship on Saturday night, Sergio Busquets addressed the crowd at Camp Nou.
