Nollywood actress Motilola Adekunle has opened up about the reality of failed marriages while sharing a heartfelt message to women.
In a candid interview with her colleague, Biola Bayo, Motilola stated that no woman enters a marriage with the intention of leaving it. She emphasized that when a marriage ends, there are no winners—only pain and lessons.
The actress expressed concern over how some women now treat marriage like a competition, pointing out that many are quick to make a scene and insist on being right all the time. However, she reminded them that in a broken marriage, there’s nothing left to be right about.
“No woman goes into marriage with the intention of leaving. When a marriage fails, nobody wins. I don’t know how people see it as a competition. I think it is mostly women who want to make a scene out of everything. Who wants to be right about everything? There is nothing to be right about anything anymore.
I am a stubborn goat. I fell in love with acting when I was in SS2. My major challenge is that now, as a director, it’s harder to be an actor”.
In 2021, Yoruba actress Motilola Adekunle publicly announced her divorce from her husband, an Air Force officer, Mr. Adekunle. She explained that the separation was a mutual decision made in peace, without anger or violence, and was ultimately in the best interest of both parties.
Despite going their separate ways, Motilola emphasized that their roles as parents to their two children remain unchanged and firmly intact.
Prior to the announcement, the actress had addressed and denied reports of a rift with her former mother-in-law, who was allegedly said to have considered her too extravagant for her son.
Following her divorce announcement, rumors surfaced claiming that Motilola Adekunle’s marriage ended due to an alleged affair with her colleague, Kunle Afod. According to controversial blog Gistlover, Kunle Afod’s wife reportedly discovered the alleged relationship and exposed both actors.
The blog further alleged that Kunle’s wife accused him of being the biological father of Motilola’s last child, citing a strong resemblance between them. The report claimed that upon hearing the allegations, Motilola’s husband chose to walk away from the marriage and distance himself from both her and their children.
