Veteran Nigerian actress and university lecturer, Professor Joke Muyiwa, renowned for her outstanding performances in Nollywood and her role in the university’s performing arts department, recently shared insights into her career choices and the challenges artists often face in the entertainment industry. She spoke candidly during an interview with Oyinmomo TV.
Despite her decades-long presence in the movie industry, Prof. Muyiwa revealed that she has only produced one film. “I have only produced one movie because producing isn’t compulsory. Some of us enjoy acting more than producing. It depends on your interest,” she explained.
She challenged the common belief that every successful actor must eventually transition into production, stating that true artistic fulfillment comes from following one’s passion. “Whatever you set your mind to, that’s what you will achieve,” she added, highlighting the importance of self-awareness and staying true to one’s calling in the industry.
She further noted that acting and teaching have always grounded her in discipline and values. “Acting and teaching didn’t permit us to engage in bad behavior. Acting is about showcasing the good in the society, so we must continue doing that and avoid bad habits,” she explained.
