Funke Akindele Pens Emotional Tribute to Late Mother on Her Posthumous 71st Birthday
Award-winning actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has penned a touching tribute to her late mother, Rachel Adebanjo-Akindele, in honor of what would have been her 71st birthday.
Taking to her Instagram page on Thursday, the box-office queen shared an emotional video compilation capturing cherished memories with her mother. In the heartfelt post, the 47year old actress wished her beloved mum a happy heavenly birthday, expressing deep love and longing.
In her tribute, Akindele addressed her late mother, revealing that she has been working diligently to build a life that would make her proud. She noted that she’s also making her well-being a priority, just as her mother had always advised.
Offering prayers for her soul, Akindele expressed hope that her mother continues to rest in perfect peace, adding that her legacy lives on in their hearts.

Her death was announced in a statement signed by Funke’s older sister, Olubunmi Akindele.
The statement had read in part:
“It is with heavy hearts, but in total submission to God Almighty, that the ADEBANJO and AKINDELE families announce the passing of their daughter, mother, grandmother and sister, DR. R B ADEBANJO-Akindele, which occurred on Tuesday 07 February 2023.”
Since her death, Funke has continued to pay tributes to her mother, often describing her as a source of strength and inspiration.
