Professor Shola Fosudo, a veteran Yoruba film actor and lecturer at Lagos State University (LASU), has shared the story of how he began his journey as a member of the university’s academic staff and why he accepted the role despite the low salary.
In an interview featured on the official YouTube channel of Oyinmomo TV, he revealed that at the time, he was already earning ₦200,000 as an actor.
However, he chose to take a lecturing job that offered just ₦5,000, prioritizing his passion for teaching and the long-term value of academic service.
According to Shola Fosudo, he said, “When I got a job offer at the university, I had already done some movies that went viral at the time. I was making 200,000 naira as an actor, but I got a lecturer job offer with a 5,000 naira salary. I accepted the job offer with the salary because I believed that I was destined to work at the university. I have achieved a lot of success as a lecturer because most of my students are now in America, London, Germany, and France, and they are all doing very well in life at the moment, and I’m very proud of them.”
