Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has sparked controversy online after revealing that she was the one who introduced her teenage daughter, Simisola, to clubbing and alcohol at 17.
She disclosed this in an interview with content creator Mr. Lilgaga, explaining that her decision was deliberate. According to her, she wanted her daughter’s first experience with nightlife to be something that would always trace back to her.
“I took my daughter to the club for the first time at 17. And I like the fact that in her memoir, she would reference me as the person who introduced her to alcohol and clubbing,” Bakare said.
The actress added that she chose to be the one to introduce Simisola to such experiences, rather than allowing her to discover them on her own or through peers who could potentially mislead her.
“At least, she would say, ‘it was my mother who showed me these things first,’” she added.

Recall that Famous9ja had reported Simisola’s lavish 17th birthday celebration, which was attended by her friends and the mum’s friends, and colleagues.
In one of the viral clips from the party, the birthday girl was spotted dancing joyfully in a strapless, elegant gown while her friends formed a circle around her, cheering and celebrating with her.
Laide Bakare’s open confession has triggered mixed reactions, with many debating her parenting approach and her choice to expose her daughter to nightlife at a young age.
