Veteran Nigerian actress Tola Oladokun has shared insights into the types of movie roles she accepts, revealing how her personal values and family background have shaped those choices.
In an interview with Oyinmomo TV, she spoke about how her husband’s strict nature may have influenced the roles she agrees to play. When asked if his stance prevented her from accepting romantic roles, she responded, “I’m not usually called for such roles. I mostly get cast as a mother. Maybe because I was offered romantic roles twice and I turned them down — that could be why. So now, whenever I’m featured, it’s always as a mother. I don’t do romantic scenes or play a witch.”
She added that her decisions are not solely influenced by her husband, but also by her upbringing and strong personal principles.
When asked whether her avoidance of romantic or witch roles was a deliberate choice or simply circumstantial, she explained, “When I told my father about my passion for this profession, he advised me never to take on anything I couldn’t handle.”
Tola Oladokun has since become widely recognized for her powerful emotional performances in motherly roles — a character type she proudly continues to portray. Her journey in Nollywood is a testament to how personal values, family influence, and self-discipline have guided her career path.
