Funke Akindele Opens Up on Personal Struggles After Mother’s Death, Failed Marriage, and Political Setback
Award-winning Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has spoken openly about a deeply emotional period in her life, revealing the personal battles she faced while trying to remain strong in the public eye.
In a heartfelt interview with WithChude, the actress reflected on how the loss of her mother, the collapse of her marriage, and a political defeat took a significant toll on her.
She further described how an online controversy pushed her to the edge. “Something happened online and for the first time, I took my phone and went live and said, ‘You all should leave me alone, I don’t know about this stuff. This person came to act in my movie, got paid and left. Why are you accusing me of something I didn’t do wrong? Do you know what I’m going through?’”
Akindele didn’t hold back in expressing the weight of the challenges she has endured. “I lost my mom, I lost my marriage, I lost in politics and I had to get back to work to earn a living. I have children I’m raising alone and you are stressing me. For the first time, I cried. I broke down for weeks. I was alone and I refused to eat.”
