Renowned Nigerian fashion designer Seyi Vodi has launched a multimillion-naira fashion complex, celebrating a significant achievement in his fashion career spanning over 20 years.
The celebrity stylist, famous for styling top dignitaries and entertainers, unveiled the impressive facility in a video posted on his Instagram page, accompanied by heartfelt prayers and a bold message to his critics.
The video, which also included appearances by some of his fashion students, highlighted the sleek, modern space Vodi says is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of fashion stars.
However, beyond the glamour and excitement, he used the occasion to address persistent rumors about the source of his wealth.
In a detailed caption, the 49-year-old designer compared himself to German fashion tycoon Philipp Plein, pointing out that despite Plein’s near-billion-dollar net worth and ownership of a private jet, his success is rarely questioned in his own society.
“My name is Seyi Adekunle Vodi… I have heard in different ways people asking, ‘is it only fashion that is giving him all this money?’ They ask from a place of want, of lack, of penury, ignorance and excruciating poverty,” he wrote.
Vodi attributed his achievements to consistent hard work, vision, and perseverance over 24 years without rest. He emphasised that societal attitudes shaped by poverty and distrust often lead to envy and baseless suspicion of legitimate success.
“If our society was one where people generally prospered, we wouldn’t be so hateful and suspicious of success,” he added.
With the new fashion complex, Vodi aims to not only expand his brand but also serve as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring creatives in Nigeria’s fashion space.
