Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, a renowned music and film producer, is mourning the passing of his older brother.
The ex-husband of Nollywood actress Funke Akindele broke the sad news on Friday through an emotional post on his Instagram page, where he shared a heartfelt video montage capturing memorable moments with his late brother.
“Rest in peace big brother. May your soul, our parents and loved ones rest in perfect peace 🙏🏽 May ALLAH (SWT) substitute our lacks with a surplus, our sadness with happiness, our fears with security, accept our act of worship and May we all be reunited in jannatul firdaus. Amin. JUMAAT MUBARAK,” he wrote.
Following JJC Skillz’s emotional post, condolences have poured in from fans and celebrities alike, including actor Bolanle Ninalowo and former Big Brother Naija housemate Boma Akpore.
JJC Skillz, who initially gained recognition in the UK as a music producer before transitioning into filmmaking in Nigeria, was married to Nollywood star Funke Akindele for six years. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in London in May 2016, after being introduced by Funke’s sister during the production of Jenifa’s Diary. Their union was blessed with twin boys in 2018, though they made a conscious effort to keep their family life out of the spotlight.
Professionally, the pair formed a powerful partnership. Together, they co-founded SceneOne Productions, the creative force behind hit shows such as Jenifa’s Diary, Industreet, and My Siblings and I. Their collaboration played a major role in solidifying Funke’s influence as a top Nollywood producer and director.
However, their marriage eventually faced challenges. In June 2022, JJC publicly confirmed their separation, stating that they had been dealing with unresolved issues for two years and that Funke had asked him to move out three months prior. Despite the split, he emphasized their shared commitment to co-parenting their children.
In March 2023, JJC remarried, tying the knot with Falilat Raji in a quiet ceremony held in Kano. Meanwhile, Funke Akindele focused on her career, dissolving SceneOne Productions and launching her own media venture, The Funke Akindele Network (FAAN), in November 2023.
Though no longer together, the former couple have continued to maintain a cordial relationship. They were seen interacting respectfully at major events, including the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and the 2023 premiere of She Must Be Obeyed, a project Funke co-produced and starred in.
