Modinat Aderemi, the late Baba Olofaina’s third wife, recently shared the story of her first visit to his house. She admitted feeling initially intimidated but decided to go along with her friends.
In an interview on Kunle Afod’s YouTube channel, Modinat recalled her early interactions with Baba Olofaina, explaining how they were introduced and how their relationship evolved. At the time, she was selling clothes at Oja Oba, and Baba Olofaina frequently passed by her stall.
Despite their significant age difference and his already established marriage, she found herself intrigued by him, as he would often stop to greet her during his visits.
Initially, Modinat’s friends were wary of the older man, concerned about the significant age gap and his existing marriage. Despite their reservations, Baba Olofaina persisted in showing interest, frequently taking Modinat and her friends to the mall and organizing outings to watch stage plays at Mopo.
After a while, Baba Olofaina invited Modinat to visit him at his house. The prospect of going alone made her anxious, as she was unsure of what to expect, especially given the complications surrounding his previous relationships.
Feeling uneasy, she decided to bring her friends along for support, which eased her fear. However, when she arrived at his home, she was surprised to find that Baba’s first wife, who she initially mistook for a friendly acquaintance, was already there.
The first wife entertained her with kindness and did not reveal her true relationship with Baba. This interaction left Modinat somewhat confused, but she continued to visit Baba’s house, gradually forming a deeper connection with him.
She said; “I used to sell cloth at Oja Oba. Anytime he was driving around that area, he’d stop to greet me. However, my friends didn’t like him because he is older than me and also married. Despite that, he’ll take us to the mall to watch stage plays, even at Mopo just to make me and my friends happy. Later, he told me to come visit him in his house but I was scared of him taking advantage of me. So I went along with my friends. When we got there, I met a woman. I didn’t know it was his first wife and she didn’t tell me anything. She just entertained me and was nice to me. From there, I started going to his place frequently with my friends until he started showing funny attitudes because he wanted me to come alone.”
