Motunrayo Adegunju, the wife of the late veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Yemi Adegunju, has opened up about her heartbreaking journey of struggle and survival after losing her ability to walk nearly two decades ago.
In an emotional interview with Kunle Afod on his official YouTube channel, Adegunju shared how her life took a tragic turn following a devastating accident in 2007 that left her reliant on assistance for mobility.
Reflecting on her ordeal, she recounted how, despite numerous hospital visits and various medical procedures, her condition remained unchanged. “In 2007, I was involved in an accident that left me unable to walk,” she revealed.
Despite multiple hospital visits and various procedures, nothing restored my ability to move,” she said. The challenges she faced only grew worse when her husband, a respected figure in the Yoruba movie industry, fell ill and could no longer provide for their family.
His passing in 2022 further deepened her struggles, leaving her without financial support and making her situation even more dire.
Since losing her ability to walk, Adegunju has been confined indoors, unable to move around independently due to the lack of funds to purchase crutches or a wheelchair.
She said: “In 2007, I was involved in an accident that left me unable to walk. Despite multiple hospital visits and various procedures, nothing restored my ability to move. Life became even more challenging when my husband fell ill and could no longer support me. His passing in 2022 made things worse. Since then, I have been unable to walk, and with no money to buy crutches, I have had to drag myself across the floor to move around the house. Sometimes it’s my children that carries me around.”
